Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families

The Safer Chemicals, Healthy Families coalition is the largest environmental health coalition in the country, with over 300 coalition partners representing millions of individuals including parents, health professionals, advocates for people with learning and developmental disabilities, reproductive health advocates, environmentalists and businesses from across the nation. The coalition is united by their common concern about toxic chemicals in our homes, places of work, and products we use every day.

Breast Cancer Fund

The Breast Cancer Fund works to prevent breast cancer by eliminating exposure to toxic chemicals and radiation linked to the disease. The organization translates the growing body of scientific evidence linking breast cancer and environmental exposures into public education and advocacy campaigns that protect health and reduce breast cancer risk. The Breast Cancer Fund is also a founding member and national coordinator of the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics, a broad-based coalition working to eliminate dangerous chemicals from cosmetics and personal care products.

Ecology Center

The Ecology Center is a Michigan-based nonprofit environmental organization that works at the local, state, and national levels for clean production, healthy communities, environmental justice, and a sustainable future through grassroots organizing, advocacy, education, and demonstration projects. One of The Ecology Center’s major programs is HealthyStuff.org, which researches consumer product chemical hazards to promote chemical policy reform.

Healthy Child Healthy World

Healthy Child Healthy World’s mission is to empower parents to take action and protect children from harmful chemicals. By working with manufacturers and supporting policy initiatives, Healthy Child has helped to transform the marketplace to encourage safer environments for children. For the past 20 years, Healthy Child has provided access to critical information that encourages smarter lifestyle choices to reduce toxic chemical exposure in homes and communities and communities to become a trusted resource for parents. Healthy Child’s vision is a world where every child has the opportunity to grow up in a healthy and safe environment.

Why these products?

All of the products in our Safe Products Guides have been vetted by an independent advisory board consisting of scientists, green chemists, members of non-profit organizations working for safer chemicals and green product bloggers.

Our goal with creating these guides is to include products that are:

  1. Safe: Products that avoid known chemicals of concern
  2. Findable: Products that are widely available at stores or online via Vine.com
  3. Affordable: Products that can be found at all price points

We are not saying that these are the only safe products on the market. But we are saying that this is a good, simple place to start. Take the first step…Switch to Safer.
